Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior official commented the incident made him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
